A/WWW Enterprises is a consulting company specializing in the design and implementation of network-based information systems, metadata, search technology and online data systems. Owned and operated since 1994 as a sole proprietorship by Archibald Warnock, A/WWW Enterprises has significant experience at the leading edge of technology, in electronic publishing, digital libraries, scientific research, data archiving and image processing and in the development of standards-based network tools like WAIS, Isite and Z39.50.

The owner of A/WWW Enterprises, Archibald Warnock, has over 25 years of experience in the development of scientific information systems, having spent ten years at Goddard Space Flight Center as a scientific support contractor and software development manager for NASA projects including the International Halley Watch, the Goddard High-Resolution Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope, the Global Change Master Directory and the National Space Science Data Center before founding A/W3.

For twelve years, A/W3 was involved in the design, development, construction and support of state-of-the-art data location and distribution systems and has been the principal software support contractor for the Isite and Isearch systems used by the Federal Geographic Data Clearinghouse.  A/WWW Enterprises has customized and deployed systems for a wide variety of professional, governmental and international organizations, ranging from electronic journals for the American Astronomical Society and the Optical Society of America to distributed digital library systems for the Space Telescope Science Institute, the World Bank, the Library of Congress and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), an independent organization of the United Nations.

In recent years, A/WWW Enterprises has provided consulting and development support in the areas of digital libraries and emerging technologies like XML, RSS, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI and other standards-based, wide-area technologies.  Mr. Warnock has served as an advisor and software system designer for the Space Telescope Science Institute's Astronomy Preprint Service, the World Intellectual Property Organization's Intellectual Property Digital Library, the Library of Congress' national digital preservation program (NDIIPP) and the NASA EOS Guide System. A/W3 has been extensively involved in the development of XML technologies for the FGDC, including the development of online metadata entry and processing systems and providing software support for the migration effort to ISO 19115.

A/WWW Enterprises provides professional-grade programming support in C, C++, perl and Java, and has developed multi-platform software packages for Windows (Win95, Win98, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP Pro and Windows 2003 Server) and many versions of Unix (Linux, Solaris, Cygwin, HP/UX, BSD, SGI).
